You’ve chosen your finish and planned your project. Before peeling back the liner, take a moment to prepare your tools.
Having the right equipment within reach helps you work steadily through preparation, positioning, application, and finishing. WrapTech offers wrap installation tools to help you get ready for the job.
Start with Your Product’s Instructions
Your tool list should match the material you’re installing. Vinyl wrap, interior finishes, and paint protection film can require different methods.
Read the installation instructions first, then check what your chosen tool kit includes. You may need additional supplies, such as a suitable surface cleaner, lint-free cloths, measuring tape, or an application solution.
Never assume every film should be installed the same way.
A Squeegee for Controlled Application
A suitable squeegee helps press film onto the surface and guide trapped air—or application solution, where required—toward the edges.
Use the type recommended for your film. A felt edge can help protect the finish during application, but it must remain clean and free from particles that could scratch the material.
Work gradually using the pressure and technique described in your product instructions.
Measuring Tools for Better Planning
Measure the application area before cutting or removing the backing liner. Check the width, length, curves, and edges you intend to cover.
Allow the extra material specified in your instructions for positioning and trimming. Planning the layout first can help you avoid discovering halfway through the job that a piece is too small.
Cutting Tools for Careful Trimming
If your project requires trimming, use an appropriate cutting tool and a clean, sharp blade. Cut on a suitable work surface away from the vehicle wherever possible.
Never let a blade score paint, trim, seals, or other vehicle components. Keep your hands clear of the cutting path and follow the tool’s safety instructions.
For difficult trimming around vehicle surfaces, seek help from an experienced installer.
Cleaning Supplies for Surface Preparation
Application tools cannot compensate for an unsuitable or contaminated surface.
Prepare the area with a cleaner approved for the surface and follow the film’s instructions for removing dirt, wax, grease, and residue. Use clean, lint-free cloths and inspect the area before applying the material.
Test a small, hidden area first if compatibility is uncertain.
Heat and Application Solution: Only When Required
Some products use controlled heat for shaping or finishing. Others require a wet application solution, while dry-application products must be installed without it.
Check your specific instructions before using either. Excessive heat or stretching can damage the film, and an incorrect application method can affect adhesion.
Keep any heat source moving and follow the manufacturer’s precautions for nearby surfaces and components.
Set Up Before You Start
Before beginning your project:
Read the film and tool instructions.
Check the contents of your installation kit.
Gather any additional supplies required.
Make sure tools and the work area are clean.
Measure and plan your cuts.
Keep instructions nearby throughout installation.
Arrange everything so you can reach it without placing tools on exposed adhesive or unprotected vehicle surfaces.
Choose Tools That Match Your Project
A smaller trim project and a larger film application may need different equipment. Choose your tools around the material, surface, and installation method—not simply the number of pieces in a kit.
